DOK Co-Pro Market Introduces New Award for Documentary Film Projects from Central or Eastern Europe

Prize To Be Presented in Co-Operation with Current Time Network

DOK Leipzig and the Russian-language network Current Time are teaming up to present a new award together. The prize, honouring an outstanding documentary film project from Central or Eastern Europe, will be awarded during the 14th edition of the DOK Co-Pro Market, which is to take place at the beginning of the festival on 29th and 30th October. The Current Time TV and DOK Co-Pro Development Prize is endowed with prize money in the amount of 2,000 US dollars.

Current Time Director Daisy Sindelar expressed her desire to support the realisation of independent documentary film projects in Central and Eastern Europe with the award. “Supporting the development of documentary films is a vital way of affirming and nurturing independent voices in our region. Telling important stories doesn’t happen by itself. This prize is meant to support the process, and give hope to the authors, artists and subjects making the stories that matter.”

This most recent addition becomes the third award currently presented by DOK Leipzig in the scope of the international co-production meeting.

“The DOK Co-Pro Market continues to be an important bridge for like-minded professionals from both Western and Central Europe and internationally more generally,” noted head of DOK Industry Brigid O`Shea, adding: “We are very grateful that Current Time recognizes this and wants to nourish this community with an early financial contribution, to support maximum creativity and encourage ambition.”

The DOK Co-Pro Market takes place annually as a part of the DOK Industry programme within the framework of the festival. This year, 35 projects will participate in the DOK Co-Pro Market. The two-day event brings together producers and directors looking to explore funding options for their most recent projects with potential (co-)producers, (co-) financiers, broadcasters and other industry representatives, in a total of over 800 individual one-on-one meetings.

Interested parties still have until 1st August to submit their creative documentary film projects, animated documentaries, one offs or interactive projects currently in development to the 14th DOK Co-Pro Market.

DOK Leipzig takes place this year from 29th October to 4th November.
